St. Patricks Day (or The Feast of Saint Patrick) is on March 17. It is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. It was officially named a feast day in the early 17th century. The shamrock, pot of gold and leprechaun are also associated with St. Patrick’s Day. The shamrock is worn as a lapel. Three is Ireland’s lucky number and the three petals that make up the shamrock is supposed to bring good luck. Many people wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.
