April Fool's Day!

By Kyra S.

Woopie cushions: check. Prank calls: check. Short-sheeting the bed: check. What do all these pranks have in common? April Fools Day!! Kids rule in this holiday, and you better watch out or else you might get pranked.  Here are some of the Heathcote Herald staff’s favorite pranks:

  • Meena: “Prank calling my friends and pretend to sell them a fake product (ex. inflatable underpants).”
  • Georgia: “Switching my sister’s toothpaste with shaving cream.”
  • Emma: “Taking a soda can, emptying it out, putting in water with pepper and serving it to somebody.”
  • Lana: “Prank calling my family.”
  • Lilly: “Swap out the cream in the Oreo for white toothpaste, and give it to someone.”

The pranking “rules” vary in different counties. In the UK, if you pull a prank on someone, you shout “April fool” and the victim becomes the “April fool”. But if you pull a joke after midday, you become the “April fool”. In Ireland it is traditional to give an “important letter” to a certain person, then they pass it on to someone else, and when it is finally opened, it says “send the fool further”. In all, April Fools day is a day to run wild!!

You start your disease in a place then it will start to infect more people.

Clash of Clans Dragon - an instructional guide

By Kevin

The Dragon is a brave flying unit and is able of attacking both ground and air troops. Unlike the Balloon, the Dragon has range and deals splash damage, like the mortar or Wizard tower.
A Dragon does short-range splash damage when he attacks. This will be only  used against Clan Castle Troops and Walls. The purple Dragon symbol shown in the Barracks is actually a level 2 Dragon. The Dragon changes from green to purple after upgrading from level 1 to level 2.
Dragons have no picked target when attacking they will attack the closest building to them. However, once they see enemy Clan Castle troops, Heroes or Skeleton Trap skeletons they will leave their previously targeted building and engage the enemy troops instead. Once all of the enemy troops are defeated, they will proceed to attack the nearest building from their location.

Should kids have homework?

By Meena V.

Should kids have homework? This is an age old debate between kids and teachers. Kids need some time to relax after school, so kids shouldn’t have homework. On the other hand, kids should review what they learned at school, at home, so kids should have homework. See, there are good things about homework and also bad things. This is really a question of opinion, so I am going to find out how people feel about homework.

I asked five people. Here are my results:

It is the second most dangerous sport. The pucks are very flat. What is a puck? A puck is the what you use to pass and score goals it is like a ball. Hockey is a great sport. Hockey sticks are what you use to hit the puck. Do not swing the hockey stick in the air or else it would hit someone. Hockey is a great sport so get playing.

New hair styles: Spring 2016

By Danielle and Lana

There are a bunch of new hairstyles in 2016. One beautiful hair style is the waterfall braid. Waterfall braids are two braids that meet up at the middle of your hair or it’s one braid that goes to the side. Another really cool style is the half- do. The half- do is when there is a bun in the back of your head a braid around the bun. The last braid is the milkmaid braid. The milkmaid is when there are two big braids acting as a headband with a bun in the back. That is why the style is also known as the braided headband.

These are the hottest styles of 2016:

Series of Unfortunate Events Summary: a book review

By: Ronald, Joning, and Bora

The Series of Unfortunate Events is a 13 book series by Lemony Snicket (David Handler). This miserable series is sad. If you don’t like sad things then I suggest you don’t read the series and read another book. The main characters are Count Olaf, Violet Baudelaire, Klaus Baudelaire, and Sunny Baudelaire.  The main plot is Count Olaf and trying to steal the Baudelaire Fortune.

Zootopia

By Kyra S. and Meena V.

Have you seen the new movie, Zootopia? It is a funny, fast-paced, animated, comedy about a bunny named Judy Hopps. Judy Hopps dreams of being a cop, but finds that the job is harder than it seems - especially if everyone doesn’t take her seriously. Predators and prey live peacefully in a city called Zootopia - or at least they used to. Animals are going missing and Judy must track down a missing otter with her job on the line. Kids will be drawn in by the funny and likeable characters, without realizing that they are learning about diversity.

The Election 2016

By: Bora, Joning, and Ronald

Who are you voting for in the election? The most popular people right now in the primaries are Hillary Rodham Clinton and Donald John Trump. The two parties in the election are the Democrats and the Republicans. The Republicans have conservative ideas. Conservatives are against Planned Parenthood and they also are against illegal immigration. Trump is winning for the Republicans, while Hillary Clinton is winning for the Democrats. Democrats are liberal. They believe in having gun control and they want looser border control. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is a moderately socialist liberal and Texas Senator Ted Cruz is an extreme conservative. The state with the most available delegates is Texas. This gives Ted Cruz a large advantage because there are 222 delegates in Texas. Marco Rubio also has an advantage because he is a Florida senator and Florida has 214 delegates. Another advantage Marco Rubio has is that Jeb Bush quit the election. We wonder who you are voting for! (Because we can’t vote!)

Leap Year!

By: Georgia

Every four years an extra day is added to the calendar. This day is February 29th. This year was a Leap Year! It makes the length of the year 366 days instead of 365 days. Why does this have to happen? The reason why it is leap year this year is that it takes the Earth a little longer to orbit the sun and it actually takes more than 365 days.

My February Vacation 2016

By: Lilly

During February vacation of 2016, I went to Vail, Colorado with another family. I went there to go skiing. I only went skiing 1-5 times before I went to Vail. The place I went to skiing before Vail was Thunder Ridge. I live in New York and it is a 4 hour plane ride to Denver, Colorado. It is a 2 hour car ride to Vail. My family and the other family stayed in a house instead of a hotel. When everybody got to the house we searched the house and every room!
