New York Giants vs Carolina Panthers

by Lilly

The New York Giants played the North Carolina Panthers on Sunday, December 20th, 2015 at MetLife stadium. I personally wanted the Giants to win. I did not like the game at the end. This is my opinion BOO PANTHERS! I love the Giants. They are my favorite NFL team. The Giants played very good for them at that game. In my opinion, the Panthers played the worst they have ever played this entire season. My favorite player is Odell Beckham, Jr. I think he has made one of the best plays of the season so far for the team.

Interesting Fact:

Fostering a Dog

By: Hope

Imagine being stuck in a shelter with a bunch of barking dogs? Imagine how nice it would be to have a family take care of you until you actually get adopted and have a forever home? You might think it is mean that the animal will have to adapt to so many places, but it is actually nice because the dog will get love and care and probably more attention!

Because of Mr. Terupt: a book review

By: Hope

When I asked my brother what book I should read, he said, “Read Because of Mr. Terupt.” I went to the bookstore immediately and bought it. I started reading it on the car ride home because I was so excited. I immediately got hooked. I read, Because of Mr. Terupt in less than two days. I loved it!

I really liked that each chapter was in a different character’s perspective. You have to read it! I recommended it to six other people and they told me that they loved it too. This is a really sad book but I loved it. If you don’t like sad books you probably shouldn’t read it. But if you start reading it don’t stop, because you will regret it!

The New York Aquarium

by Ronald

Last Sunday I went to the New York aquarium. I went with my mom, dad, and sister. It was decent one because hurricane Sandy took away most of the attractions.

First when I went in I saw fish. There were so colorful and beautiful. My mom even wanted the fish. I saw stingrays, Hogfish, and some many more I can’t remember. After we came out we went to get food. Hurricane Sandy destroyed the food court we got hotdogs and ice cream.

The NY Mets In 2015

by Lilly

In 2015 the NY Mets got into the world series. These are the top 9 players :

  • Curtis Granderson #3 - right field
  • Ruben Tejada #11 - shortstop
  • Lucas Duda # 21 - first base
  • Michael Cuddyer #23 - left field
  • Daniel Murphy #21 - second base
  • Wilmer Flores #4 - shortstop
  • Kevin Plawecki #22 - catchers
  • Ruben Tejada #11 -  shortstop
  • Juan Lagares #12 - center field

My favorite player is Lucas Duda. I like him because he is great. I also like him because his number is 21 and that is my lucky number. The mets had a great season. I got a little disappointed at game 5 of the world series. I hope the mets get to the world series next year and win!

GO METS!!!

MVP: A Book Review

By: Ronald

I recently read MVP. MVP is a really good book. The book is written by Douglas Evans. It is about a 12 year old kid who is in a race to travel around the world. It all happens in a classroom when a prince named Oh wants Adam to help him complete a challenge to travel around the world. Adam will get 40 million dollars if he completes the challenge, but Adam is unaware that many dangers lie ahead and there is only forty days to go around the world with no flying allowed. Adam travels from country to country and meets many people. Will he win or get eliminated? You should read it and find out. This is a good book that will knock your socks off!

The Black Violin

by Kevin

On November 16, 2015, the entire third grade went on a field trip to listen to the band Black Violin. We took a bus to SUNY Purchase. There were four men in the band. One was a DJ, a singer/violinist, a drummer, and another violinist/singer. They let us dance a lot and I did. I would go there again if I could. Then we went back to Heathcote.

Here some of their music:

Soccer

by Ronald F

Do you ever play soccer? Well it is an awesome sport. It originated in England around the mid 19th century, but the Chinese claimed to have played a version of it before. Soccer is basically kicking a soccer ball around but you can’t foul people or receive a ball offsides. The first best player in the history is Pele. This is a list of the best players in the world:

Michigan vs Michigan State - Oct 17

by: Lilly

The weekend of October 17th, 2015, Michigan played Michigan State. I am a Michigan fan. Both of my parents went there for college. GO BLUE! I went to the game. I was in the front row behind the end zone. Michigan State received the ball from Michigan’s kickoff. They did not get that far. Michigan was in 12th place and Michigan State was in 8th place. I was so nervous for the game to start. The worst part of the game was the end. I will tell you about it.

Stuff the Bus!

Danielle G. Kyra S. and Meena V.

Monday, November 9th, 2015 at Heathcote School was a very special and rare event. It was Pajama Day!!! On Pajama Day, at Heathcote, people are allowed to wear their favorite pajamas to school. At 10:15am all the grades came out and  to do a special tradition called Stuff The Bus.

Stuff the Bus is when all the kids of our school donate a pair of pajamas and bring them to a bin that has their teacher’s name on it. Then all the teachers hand in the bins to the office and when all the grades come outside we stuff all the pajamas into a bus giving them to less fortunate children. It was a fun experience that helped a good cause. Here are a few of our favorite pics:

Halloween: What are the Teachers Going to be?

By Kyra S., Danielle G. & Meena V.

This year the teachers will NOT tell us what they will be for Halloween (unfair!!!!!!!). Here is what some people think they will be...

Yu Yuan (a King's garden)

By: Ronald F.
In the summer, I went to Shanghai. In Shanghai, we visited a king’s garden called Yu Yuan. It was built hundreds of years ago.  I think you should go there because it is an ancient, wonderful place.

Yu yuan is a garden with many houses. All houses are used for a different purpose. Most are used for living, but some are for looking at the land, some are for resting, and one is for looking at performances. It is massive so I don’t expect you to finish looking at the whole thing in one day. I went on a Chinese taxi. Chinese taxis don’t have seat belts. When we got off we crossed the road and went to buy tickets. Each ticket was bought using Chinese money. The king’s garden was built by a king. The king built it all by himself. It has mostly houses. So when I got in there was a bridge. Many people are on the bridge so you have to push through the crowd to get in. Then there are a bunch of tunnels. When I went through the tunnel I found many houses. The gates blocked the entrances to the houses. I passed many houses. Most had carvings on top. The carvings are very detailed. We walked for two hours and then we had to go back home.

The Miami Dolphins Vs. The Tennessee Titans

By Giana

The Miami Dolphins won 38 - 10 against the Tennessee Titans.

Calico Critters

By Kyra S. & Meena V.

There is an AMAZING toy that is adorable. They are called Calico Critters.  For those out there who have NO idea what they are, here is a flash briefing: Calico Critters were released in 1985. The first ones ever sold were the Babblebrook Bunnies and the Cottontail Bunnies. Sadly, all the Calico Critter varieties that were sold in the 1980s, are not sold today. This makes them extremely rare.

Here is a list of rare to most rare Calico Critters:

Gymnastics

By:Hope

Gymnastics is a fun sport. I love it because you can never run out of skills to learn. There are many pieces of equipment. Practicing is very important because once you learn something and you don’t practice then you might not be able to do it anymore.

One piece of equipment is the parallel bars. When you use the bars you might find that you cannot get a good grip. You should try to put chalk or hand grips on your hands. If you get dizzy easily then the bars might not be for you because you flip over a lot.

Bottle Rockets

By: Hope

Fifth graders get to do many fun things. One fun thing we get to do is make rockets. I am in Ms. Boyer’s class and we are going to make bottle rockets. Everyone is in a group. As a group, we make inspiration boards. An inspiration board is a board made up of things you get inspired by which we find on the internet. My group has a great board and we are really proud. We also get to build rockets as a group.

The body of the rocket is made from a one or two liter soda bottle. We can also use things like styrofoam and duct tape to decorate and build the rocket. After we build the rocket, we get to launch it. A few days after we launch and fix the flaws, we get to re-launch it.

I am very excited to build, launch, and re-launch our rockets. So far my group and I are having a lot of fun and are doing very well!

London Dungeon, London City!

by Kevin

*Sizzling sizzling* “It’s pouring” I said to my mother. “Are we still going to the London Eye?”
“Yes we are.” My mother said. “The carts have roofs so we won’t get that wet.  We’re taking the bus there. It’s a 45 minute drive so you might want to take a nap.” said my mom.
“Ok!” I said.
Twenty minutes later, I was fast asleep on the bus. Drip drop drip drop it was still pouring when my mom woke me up...

This month we have a Halloween parade at school. We come to school with our costumes on. In the morning, we have a Halloween parade. There is always a Halloween theme. I don’t know what the theme will be this year but I know it will be funny.  The halloween parade is just you going around the school in your costume while your parents are taking pictures of you. Once again the fifth graders are learning ballroom dancing. Everyone says it is an honor to learn how to ballroom dance but I don’t think so. At first my friends and I weren’t very excited. And it hasn’t changed much but it wasn’t as bad as we thought.
