Hillary's defeat and Trump's win

by Danielle

The 45th Presidential Election is finally over. It was between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. The winner was Donald Trump. Trump wants to change some woman's right like if a woman is pregnant and doesn’t want to be they have to go to another country to decline the pregnancy. Trump has also has said very lewd things about women. People are not happy about Trump’s win. There is going to be a women's rights march hosted on January 21, 2017 in Washington D.C. The march is going to be filled with millions of women protesting against Trump about their rights. This is not the first protest against trump there have many more this is just the biggest one. People might ask “If people are doing so much protesting against Trump how did he win?” The answer is Trump didn’t win in the popular vote. The popular vote is each single person’s vote. But what matters is the Electoral College vote. Here is how it works. Each state gets a number of votes based on its population. It is up to a legislator chosen from that state to give in the votes. The candidate that gets to 270 electoral votes first is President. People think this is very unfair. Donald Trump is our President and we must live with it and think the best of it.

  1. Incisive commentary from Danielle on this travesty of an election. The principal of "one person, one vote" is turned inside out by a system that allows voters in small states like Wyoming 3 times as much say in the final outcome as voters in large states like California or New York. Kudos to Danielle for shining a light on the undemocratic outcomes that can (and did) result from an electoral college system that has outlived its usefulness.
